- A Copy & Paste DecadeTypology in the Work of OMA
- Abstract
- According to Matteo Kuijpers, a reversal in
the work of OMA took place in 1989. In the
first decade of Koolhaas’s design practice,
he copied projects of the avant-garde of
the early twentieth century. These designs
were taken from their original context and
used as montage pieces in a new design.
Projects like the Sea Trade Center Zeebrugge,
the Très Grande Bibliothèque in
Paris and the Zentrum für Kunst und
Medientechnologie in Karlsruhe announced
the advent of a period of typological innovation:
no longer were examples from
recent history copied, but the new designs
themselves would set an example. The
copy/paste decade was over.
