- World-buildingArendt’s Writings as Challenge
- Abstract
- George Baird reflects on the relationship between his writings, which are informed by Hannah Arendt’s political reflections, and his work as an architecture practitioner. Even though there is no linear relationship between philosophical ideas and architectural typologies, his reading of Arendt resonates in his intentions as architect. He discusses three projects – a project for urban renewal, a design for a new City Hall, and the design for a small park – wherein he traces three concepts that echo three Arendtian perspectives: continuity, permanence and publicness. These concepts, he claims, are still relevant for the contemporary practice of architecture.
