- Abstract
- Urged by the assignment to build a house on Bali, architect Anne Geenen reflects on the possibility of building in a culturally unfamiliar context. She shows how the production of building materials, building methods and techniques, as well as a delicate network of waterways and canals tell her something about the cultural and social values of a village
community on Bali. A focus on materiality enables her, as architect, to communicate in a meaningful way, even beyond a familiar cultural context.
