- Abstract
- This conversation with Kenneth Frampton probes into the intellectual context in which the concept of Critical Regionalism came into being. It situates the text from 1983 in a series of events such as the first international architecture exhibition in Venice in 1980 and in a lineage of essays by architects such as Oriol Bohigas and cultural thinkers like Paul Ricoeur, Hannah Arendt and Frederic Jameson. The conversation explores how Critical Regionalism was part of a series of postmodern developments in architecture culture. A last part looks back on the ambitions and the reception of the concept of Critical Regionalism, exploring its capacity to act as a critical marker in architectural thinking, practice and education.
