Lieven Nijs

Lieven Nijs is an architect who trained at Sint-Lucas Ghent. In 2003 he founded BLAF architecten together with architect Bart Van Den Driessche. He joined the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of Ghent as a studio assistant in 2008, and has been part of the Ghent Quality Chamber for Architecture and Monuments since 2016, and the first city architect in Ghent in the capacity of vice-chairman since 2018. In his practice as well as in his teaching, research and quality control, he is interested in the design aspects of sustainability. For BLAF he is mainly responsible for the architecture and urban design of public-private projects and social housing. Together with Maarten Van Den Driessche he set up the research seminar ‘Brick Wall City’ and conducted an exploratory research ‘Pilot Projects in Climate Districts’, commissioned by the Flemish Government.
