- The Search for a Plan Never Ends: Questions for Architecture Institutions Today
- Abstract
- In 1987, Allan Bloom published his book The Closing of the American Mind, in which he criticized the failure of American higher education to provide a platform for debate and critical thinking. This is the same failure that architecture institutions risk today. For those like the
Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) to be able to critically engage with the challenges facing contemporary society, there must be a continuous rethinking of institutional culture, ways of working and accepted definitions of success. This essay discusses the contemporary and
future missions of the CCA in a rapidly changing cultural and societal environment.
