- Archives of Architecture Museums: The Effects of Digitisation
- Abstract
- The present state of architecture archives is characterised by an increasing tendency towards digitisation. The fact that in September 2016 the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) announced free online access to thousands of exhibition images in The New York Times is a symptom of such an ongoing process. Undoubtedly, this trend has an impact on the production and dissemination of architectural knowledge and alters the way architecture museums relate to contemporary architectural and urban design practice as well as to the general public The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize how this transfer of architectural records from paper to a digital form affects the relation between the general public and architecture.
