- A Virtual Architecture Centre in Turkey
- Abstract
- With the introduction of the Internet as a new medium for information exchange, more people prefer to watch events on YouTube or browse archives via web pages. Architecture centres with their spatial qualities are under threat of becoming obsolete with the development
of new information exchange tools. However, since 2000 there has been an architecture centre in Turkey that may offer an alternative approach to the problems of conventional centres. Arkitera was among the first vertical portals to disseminate architecture-related information
to the construction and architecture communities and it became the backbone of the architecture centre to be established. This paper describes the strategies of Arkitera that may be an alternative model for countries where little or no financial support is reserved for contemporary architecture culture.
