- The Illusion of RealityVille Nouvelle Melun-Sénart
- Abstract
- David Peleman discusses the relationship between OMA’s design for the Ville Nouvelle Melun-Sénart in 1987 and reality. When this project was developed, the historical city was again fully on the agenda of architectural practice. In that context OMA dared to project a number of voids on the site near Paris. Urbanism was elevated to the art of ‘imagining nothingness’, as Koolhaas put it. The innocence of the
site and the architect was guaranteed, and the illusion of reality was translated as a search for the sublime.
