- Self-Portrait of a SocietyPanopticon Prison Arnhem
- Abstract
- In 1980, OMA tried to reconcile different
disciplines through architecture: the design
for the Panopticon Prison in Arnhem transcends
the conflicting demands of all
parties involved. The starting point was, as
Joost Meuwissen writes, to design a prison
as ‘normal’ as possible. Only the confinement
makes the building and the regime
different then society. Crucial are the
outdoor area and the view – from the inside
out and from the outside in.
