- Intervention versus NarrativeHotel Furkablick Renovation, Switzerland
- Abstract
- The story of OMA’s transformation of Hotel Furkablick of 1988 seems to have arisen in parallel with the architectural project. In her contribution, Sabine von Fischer wonders what this story is about, and whether it precedes spatial intervention. As often with Koolhaas, the narrative context seems more important than the architectural design. Nevertheless, a description of the intervention shows how OMA mocks the rhetoric of context and location specificity. The extension is a modernist machine for viewing; the environment provides the location and the landscape, but not the intellectual or material context.
