- Delirious EquivalenceThe Hague City Hall Competition
- Abstract
- The competition for a town hall with a library in The Hague in 1986 was
meant to revitalise the historic centre. Francesco Marullo discusses
the competition, and reveals how different the proposal by OMA was.
Rather than catering to the social-democratic and representative
ambitions of the municipality, a rigorous three-dimensional framework
was proposed that would be filled with programmes, people and
activities. Thanks to a dismantling of the traditional protocols for
real estate offices, instability was programmed and flexibility was
organised.
