- The Metabolism of the Victorian Turkish Bath
- Abstract
- This article concentrates on the spatial reflection of modern norms of health and cleanliness, leisure and pleasure in the Turkish baths built in Great Britain at the end of the nineteenth century. Following a case study research, it aims to uncover how these dualities have affected the changing metabolism of the Victorian cities. The authors argue that the contemporary stage of this metabolic process exemplifies a consumerism that can be observed in health and spa centres as an architectural stereotype.
