- Seasonal Neighbours The Social Role of Seasonal Migrant Workers in Horticulture in Haspengouw
- Abstract
- The cultivation of fruit is part of a metabolism characterised by production peaks and manual labour. Today, the sector depends largely on seasonal workers from Eastern Europe for the picking of fruit and vegetables. This paper presents an artistic research project in this context. It reveals the limited social role of workers in contrast to their economic role and describes how an architectural intervention aims to strengthen new and existing social relations between ‘seasonal neighbours’.
