Kees Christiaanse studied architecture and urban design at Delft University of Technology. In 1980 he joined the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and was appointed partner in 1983. In 1989 he founded his own company, now KCAP Architects & Planners (Rotterdam). In 1990 he co-founded ASTOC Architects and Planners (Cologne) and was a partner there until 2002. His work focuses on urban assignments in complex situations and on guiding urban processes. He is supervisor of several international urban developments. He held a professorship for architecture and urban design at the Technical University of Berlin (1996-2003) and was Chair of the Urban Planning Institute at the ETH in Zurich (2003-2018). He is the author of many publications about architecture and urban design. He has received numerous honours, including the ‘2016 RIBA International Fellowship’, the ‘ARC17 Oeuvre Award’, and the ‘ULI Leadership Award 2018’ for sustainable urban development in the urban centres of Germany.

OASE editors Bart Decroos, Sereh Mandias, Elsbeth Ronner and Kornelia Dimitrova wrote a Call for Abstracts for OASE #112 with the theme “Ecological Aesthetics”. This
issue of OASE is interested in contributions that investigate the role
of aesthetics in contemporary ecological practices and discourses in
